Wendy wanted to reduce her reliance on the grid, eliminate gas bills, and power her home with clean energy. Initially, her monthly gas expenses were around $140, and electricity costs averaged $146 per month. She also had aspirations of transitioning to an electric vehicle and a fully solar-powered household.
Wendy began with a 3.2kW solar system in June 2022. Over time, she expanded her system—first to 9.8kW in March 2023, and finally to 14.8kW in July 2024, along with battery storage. She also replaced her gas heating, hot water, and cooktop with efficient electric alternatives and purchased an EV, which she powers with her own Solar power. In total, her solar investment of $14,000 and home electrification costs of $13,700 put her on the path to grid independence.
“With the support of ZECO Energy, I’ve completely transformed my home. My gas bills are gone, my electricity bills are now in credit some months, and I’m living a more sustainable lifestyle all with a payback period of less than four years.” - Wendy

For most Melbourne homeowners who use electricity during the day or can shift usage to daylight hours, solar pays for itself -typical systems in Victoria generate savings within 5–9 years depending on system size, energy use, and the current electricity tariff. Adding a battery extends those savings into the evening and provides backup during outages, though it adds to the upfront cost. ZECO's free site inspection gives you a ballpark savings figure based on your actual home, which is more useful than any generic calculator.
Whole-home electrification replaces every gas appliance in your home - cooktop, hot water, heating and cooling - with electric alternatives powered by solar and battery storage. Your home runs entirely on electricity you generate yourself, with no gas bill and much lower grid reliance. ZECO installs and manages the installation of all components: solar, battery, EV charger, heat pump hot water, and reverse-cycle heating and cooling, coordinated as a single project rather than separate trades.
Victorian homeowners can currently access the Solar Homes Program for solar panels and battery rebates, the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) scheme for heat pumps and heating and cooling upgrades, and interest-free loans for eligible households. Rebate availability and eligibility criteria change -ZECO's consultants stay across current programs and factor them into every quote, so you don't need to research them separately.
Yes. ZECO offers a solar lease where you pay a monthly fee instead of a lump sum upfront. ZECO maintains and monitors the system throughout the lease period. At the end of the lease, you purchase the fully operational system for $1. Ask the team for current terms when you book your site inspection.
Most residential jobs take five to seven weeks from free site inspection to switch-on, depending on system complexity, council or DNSP approval requirements, and equipment lead times. The physical installation takes one to two days. ZECO handles the network connection application and metering paperwork, so you don't need to coordinate with your DNSP directly.
