Wendy wanted to reduce her reliance on the grid, eliminate gas bills, and power her home with clean energy. Initially, her monthly gas expenses were around $140, and electricity costs averaged $146 per month. She also had aspirations of transitioning to an electric vehicle and a fully solar-powered household.
Wendy began with a 3.2kW solar system in June 2022. Over time, she expanded her system—first to 9.8kW in March 2023, and finally to 14.8kW in July 2024, along with battery storage. She also replaced her gas heating, hot water, and cooktop with efficient electric alternatives and purchased an EV, which she powers with her own Solar power. Most residential jobs take five to seven weeks from free site inspection to switch-on, depending on system complexity, council or DNSP approval requirements, and equipment lead times. The physical installation takes one to two days. ZECO handles the network connection application and metering paperwork, so you don't need to coordinate with your DNSP directly.
