We're proud to reveal a significant milestone for ZECO Energy's Technical Services division, creating a faster pathway to CSIP-AUS certification for inverter and battery manufacturers operating in Australia.
ZECO Energy has become the first company in Australia to be recognised by the Australian National University (ANU) as an independent CSIP-AUS tester, marking an important development in Australia's renewable energy certification landscape.
ZECO Energy can now offer the independent undertaking and self-assessing of CSIP-AUS compliance testing, removing the requirement for live ANU-witnessed testing under the approved independent testing pathway.
ANU will continue to verify all testing evidence and retain responsibility for final certification.
Why CSIP-AUS certification matters
The Common Smart Inverter Profile – Australia (CSIP-AUS) establishes a standardised communications framework between electricity networks and distributed energy resources, enabling electricity network operators to implement capabilities such as dynamic export limits and emergency backstop controls.
As of October 2026, CSIP-AUS is required for relevant installations across several major Australian electricity networks. NSW is introducing its requirements from November 2026 and manufacturers must demonstrate that their products and communication systems meet the relevant standards.
ANU operates Australia's national CSIP-AUS testing and certification service, with results subsequently provided to the Clean Energy Council for inclusion in its approved product listings.
How we help
Previously, while manufacturers could undertake preliminary testing independently, final certification required live testing witnessed by ANU representatives.
Under the new changes allowing an independent testing pathway, ZECO Energy can instead conduct and self-assesses testing to the required standards, before submitting the supporting evidence to ANU for independent review and certification.
This development will provide manufacturers with high testing volumes or repeated failed tests the opportunity to quicken the certification process and receive further help during the tests to ensure products progress through testing more efficiently.
In its statement recognising ZECO Energy, ANU confirmed:
"ANU has recognised ZECO Energy as the first independent CSIP-AUS tester. Independent testing creates a faster path for high volume clients with a demonstrated history of first-time compliance to gain their certifications without requiring live witness tests performed by ANU."
ANU further explained that recognition is granted based on previous testing performance, including the demonstrated ability to plan, undertake and independently assess testing to a high standard.
ZECO Energy's engineering expertise
The development represents a new frontier for ZECO Energy's Technical Services division, which provides specialist engineering, technical support and integration services to renewable energy manufacturers.
ZECO Energy's experience extends across inverter and battery technologies, grid compliance, communication protocols and the development of its Australian-made Marshall energy management platform.
Marshall has already achieved CSIP-AUS v1.2 certification for multi-inverter control, demonstrating ZECO's practical experience with the technical requirements.
Independent CSIP-AUS testing extends these capabilities into a dedicated service for manufacturers seeking to bring their technology to the Australian market.
For original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), ZECO can now provide independent testing as part of its broader technical services offering, alongside engineering consultation, integration support and assistance navigating Australian compliance requirements.
Jag Makam, Director, ZECO Energy said in a statement:
“We appreciate the trust put in us and our ever-evolving relationship with ANU and look forward to broader conversations with OEMs in this space in narrowing how best we can help the process and add value.”
For ZECO Energy, the recognition reinforces its position not only as a renewable energy installation and technology business, but as a specialist engineering organisation contributing to the infrastructure and technical standards supporting Australia's energy transition.
For manufacturers seeking assistance with CSIP-AUS testing, certification preparation or Australian grid integration, ZECO Energy's Technical Services team is available to discuss project requirements.
